Homo Classicus

I am Evaggelia Paraschou, musicologist and classical guitarist.

I work at the Cultural Department of Thermaikos Municipality in Thessaloniki (Greece), where my main area of activity has to do with teaching classical guitar and conducting various guitar ensembles.

This blog aims to inform my students at the “Classical Guitar C-Lab” about outstanding composers and performers in the realm of classical guitar, as well as about classical music pieces utilized in movies.

Classical guitar music and classical music is beautiful and I feel obliged to open up new musical landscapes to my students, thus widening their aesthetic experience, triggering their emotional world, feeding their imagination, as a necessary supplement to a broader music education for them.

I hope that by introducing and guiding them into this knowledge, they will stand a chance to escape from mass music which is thoroughly propagated through the dominant media culture.
