Fransisco Tarrega was a Spanish composer and guitarist of the 19th century (1852 – 1909). His first guitar teacher was Julian Arcas, at a time when guitar was a marginalized instrument. On the contrary, piano was a very popular instrument which had overshadowed all the others. Tarrega started playing in recitals all over Europe, presenting his own compositions and transcriptions of classical works, setting a milestone for the resurrection and establishment of classical guitar. His compositions Capricho Arabe, Recuerdos de la Alhambra, Danza Mora, Adelita etc. are extremely important parts of the repertoire, bearing a romantic character and influences from Spanish traditional music. It’s worth mentioning that Emilio Pujol was Tarrega’s pupil.
O Fransisco Tarrega είναι Ισπανός συνθέτης και κιθαρίστας του 19ου αιώνα (1852 – 1909). Ξεκίνησε να μαθαίνει κιθάρα δίπλα στον Julian Arcas μια εποχή που η κιθάρα δεν είχε ιδιαίτερη απήχηση και ήταν περιθωριοποιημένη. Αντίθετα το πιάνο είχε επισκιάσει όλα τα υπόλοιπα όργανα. Ο Tarrega ξεκίνησε να δίνει συστηματικά ρεσιτάλ σε όλη την Ευρώπη με δικές του συνθέσεις, αλλά και με σημαντικές διασκευές κλασικών έργων, συμβάλλοντας έτσι στην ανάδειξη της κλασικής κιθάρας. Έργα του όπως το Capricho Arabe, το Recuerdos de la Alhambra, το Danza Mora, το Adelita κ.ά. είναι από τα σημαντικότερα του ρεπερτορίου, με ρομαντικό χαρακτήρα και επιρροές από την παραδοσιακή μουσική της Ισπανίας. Μαθητής του Tarrega υπήρξε και ο Emilio Pujol.
Sharon Isbin was born in 1956 in Minneapolis, U.S.A. and she is a Yale School of Music graduate. He teaches at the Classical Guitar Faculty of the famous Juilliard School of Music, New York. Actually, she was the founder of that faculty! She has recorded many CDs, winning the Grammy award several times. Various composers such as Howard Shore, Leo Brouwer, Steve Vai, John Duarte and others have dedicated their works to her. She is one of the most famous guitarists worldwide, as she has also performed movie soundtracks and appeared with many symphony orchestras.

Διδάσκει στο Τμήμα Κλασικής Κιθάρας της φημισμένης Juilliard School of Music της Νέας Υόρκης – αυτή μάλιστα ίδρυσε το τμήμα αυτό. Έχει ηχογραφήσει πάρα πολλά CD, κερδίζοντας πολλές φορές το βραβείο Grammy. Διάφοροι συνθέτες, όπως ο Howard Shore, o Leo Brouwer, ο Steve Vai, o John Duarte κ. ά. έχουν γράψει έργα ειδικά για αυτήν. Είναι από τις διασημότερες εκτελέστριες κιθάρας παγκοσμίως, με συμμετοχές και σε soundtracks κινηματογραφικών συναυλιών και πολυάριθμες εμφανίσεις με συμφωνικές ορχήστρες.
